Western Australia’s Vaping Standoff: Keeping the Prescription Barrier Strong

Western Australia is taking a hardline stance against federal vaping laws, rejecting plans to allow pharmacies to sell nicotine vapes without a prescription. While the rest of the country moves toward easier access for adults, WA is standing firm, keeping its stricter rules in place. Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson insists that maintaining the prescription-only policy is key to protecting public health and preventing vaping from becoming mainstream.

Despite tough regulations, the state has struggled to clamp down on illegal vape sales, with only two businesses prosecuted, even after authorities seized over half a million illegal vapes. WA’s move is a bold statement that it won’t compromise on public health, focusing on tightening enforcement to tackle black market sales
