A recent Cochrane review found strong evidence that nicotine e-cigarettes are more effective than traditional nicotine replacement therapies, such as patches and gums, in helping people quit smoking. The review analyzed 78 studies involving over 22,000 participants, showing that nicotine e-cigarettes significantly increase quit rates. While short-term side effects like throat irritation were noted, they tend to diminish over time. The study concludes that while e-cigarettes are not risk-free, they pose much lower risks than smoking and can be an effective tool for smoking cessation.
